"No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in." Rosa Parks describes the now historic moment of not giving up her seat to White Americans in a segregated bus. This quiet inner resolve of enough! is inspiring.

15 years ago I read The Artist's Way and it completely altered the direction of my life. suddenly I was an artist? I hadn't even done art at high school! Today inspiration from that book's author, Julia Cameron: we must always bear in mind that each day's work is part of a body or work, and that body of work is the work of a lifetime.

Inspiration from from Eva Hesse in 1959
just stop thinking, worrying, looking over your shoulder wondering, doubting, fearing, hurting, hoping for some easy way out, struggling, grasping...stop it and just do.

day 13 in Detroit. foreclosure as enforced by banks or local government is changing who lives in this city. a house here can be valued in so many different ways: tax revenue for a broke city, a home for a lifetime, a bargain at auction for an out of town investor.

well into the second week in detroit. struck by the empty spaces in the urban streets. creating a rural/urban feeling. the spaces in the city could be someone else's memories of a glorious past, a place for pheasant to roam or maybe even an entrepreneurial dream to ride the real estate gold rush.

day three in Detroit. we took a long drive to the bigger supermarket the other day. it meant leaving Detroit and entering Grosse Pointe. i don't think i've ever seen such a dramatic change between city borders; the houses seemed to triple in size, were the trees greener? Grosse Pointe is a suburban city with 93,2% white population.
